NASA aerospace engineer, Mark Moore, develops Puffin prototype: the stealthy, personal tilt-rotor aircraft of the future

The future of personal space travel has arrived: NASA aerospace engineer, Mark Moore, along with a team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), and M-DOT Aerospace, has developed a one-man tilt-rotor aircraft. Named Puffin, the aircraft looks like jetpack capsule, and stands at 12-feet with a 14.5-feet wingspan. In theory, Puffin can travel at 150 mph for about 50 miles with its current battery technology. The aircraft concept, propelled using vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology, brings personal transportation to new heights.

Architect Gary Chang creates Domestic Transformer, a small apartment that is able to convert into 24 different designs

Hong Kong is a busy cosmopolitan city with a growing problem of shrinking.  Being one of the busiest port cities in the world a growing number of people are moving there in pursuit of work.  All these emigrating people need homes but the city isn’t able to expand to accommodate the growing need for more housing, forcing large families in to small apartments.  Architect Gary Chang tackled this issue by creating a sliding wall system in his 330 square foot apartment, allowing him to have 24 different rooms.

SAIC’s Yez concept car: the first automobile with a negative carbon footprint

At the World Exposition 2010, General Motor’s joint-venture partner in China, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), unveiled its ground-breaking concept car, Yez. This concept vehicle is the first automobile to actually have a negative carbon footprint, by actually drawing in carbon dioxide and produced oxygen. Yez, which means “leaf” in Chinese, uses artificial photosynthesis, solar power, and wind power as its power source, and serves as a prime example of new sustainable technology.

Priestmangoode unveils plans for Mercury, Britain’s new high-speed double-decker train

The United Kingdom is looking to add their first double-decker train to their rail system by introducing the Mercury. Designed by a London-based multidisciplinary design group, Priestmandgoode, the 437 yard long Mercury can travel as fast as 225 mph and will feature both commuter seats as well as private compartments for families and business meetings. The Mercury is looking to join the elite ranks of luxury travel with the likes of Concorde, the Spitfire, Rolls Royce and the Routemaster bus.
