University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP Lab Develops an Autonomous Quadcopter that can Maneuver through Tight Spaces and Lift Heavy Objects


Daniel Mellinger, Dr. Nathan Michael, and Professor Vijay Kumar are heading a project at the University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP (General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception) Lab that takes the concept of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to new heights. The GRASP Lab has developed an autonomous quadcopter that can navigate through extremely small spaces, work with other quadcopters, and lift heavy objects. The quadcopter is designed for military purposes and could one help assist troops in a combat zone.
